Unit 555 was founded in honor of Christopher “Mason” Powell — a devoted son, loyal friend, standout athlete, and firefighter in training whose life was tragically cut short on May 13, 2025, in a commercial motor vehicle crash on Interstate 75 in north Georgia.

Mason was 23 years old and returning home to Florida when a semi-truck crossed the median and collided with oncoming traffic. The crash claimed multiple lives and forever changed countless families.

Out of unimaginable loss, Unit 555 was created to ensure Mason’s life stands for more than tragedy — it stands for action, reform, and protection for others.  Mason was raised in Wellington, Florida, where he became known for his work ethic, discipline, and heart for service.

He excelled in football and wrestling at Wellington High School and carried that same determination into his dream of becoming a firefighter. Mason believed in running toward danger to protect others. Service was not just a goal — it was who he was.

He lived with strength, loyalty, and a deep love for family and community.  Unit 555 reflects the values Mason embodied every day: courage, accountability, sacrifice, and compassion.
